Welcome to our blog, we hope you enjoy it.
We bought this trip at the Charity auction at the Nelune Lilac Ball (have a look at the web site: Nelune Foundation). Its fair to say that the trip was a rush of blood after a few too many reds, but at least it wasn't a signed footie jersey or a fridge full of ice cream....
It is also for a great cause and although originally started bidding on a trip to Mumbai, and this wasn't necessarily a holiday we really planned it is now upon us and we are quite excited.
We Leave on Monday 12 January 2009 and will try and add updates with photos each day. Loosely our plan is 3 night in SFO, 1 night in Sonoma and then back to SF for another day. Then we rent a car and head for Carmel by the Sea for a couple of days. After Carmel, we are a bit up in the air, we'll see if we feel we wanted to do more in SFO, or maybe go to Yosemite...
Initial thoughts from H:
This is our first trip to the USA (and our first real holiday together in 14 years), and a few things trouble/puzzle me:
I have no idea about tipping, its a foreign concept to me, and its fair to say I'm a bit tight - so we'll see how that goes!!
The Aussie $ is a concern, but nothing we can do.
Driving on the wrong side will be a challenge, but should be OK.
Initial thoughts from S:
In typical fashion I'm excited but anxious about leaving the girls for such a long time (sounds tragic I'm sure but have left them for max. of 3 nights before now). So am promising them that I'll not worry - they have all assured me that they will be fine! Am thrilled to finally be using my passport again... after a 14 year rest!
Hamish and Simone - bon voyage!! A great start to the blog - I expect you to maintain this standard. I've got my money on the tent in Yosemite - can you give us the odds of that happening, or do we have to keep reading the blog to find out?
ReplyDeleteOdds just fell to zero
ReplyDeleteA whole lot of reasons, the 2 biggies are that:
1. Too much to do here - Big Sur itself is a full day;
2. Huge drive to Yosemite and in theory you arent allowed to get chains in a hire car
