12 January 2009 - Wow, what a day!
A long hot morning in Sydney waiting to go followed by a long flight - eeek (i'd had about 5 hours sleep in the shot below)
However the trip was improved no end when we noticed our old neighbour Phil was serving in First Class, but was seen popping back down to cattle to deliver something.
Turns out that he and Lisa are meeting the kids in SFO and with any luck we'll have dinner with them all this Friday.
A quick exit and cab trip meant we were at the Hotel by 11:15 am. Only downside was the room wasnt ready, so check the luggage with the Porter and we were off... A quick feed at a place called Sears (nice, but not great) and we jumped on the Cable Cars - What a hoot, we had the Rookie with Attitude driving, and he was very entertaining. Although he didnt quite get up Powell on the first attempt.
A walk down Lombard (the supposed windyest st in the world - and its certainly very steep)
and then back, quick change and Alcatraz and probable the Best Thai we've ever eaten - thanks Matthew for the heads up on Slanted Door!
HF Thoughts: These Yanks are seriously friendly people; Love SFO and all good (albeit yes the tip gripe... I had to pay the Porters about $10 all up just cos our room wasnt ready!)
ZZZzzzzzzzzzzz (maybe tomorrow)
Hi Guys - great first day. How steep are those hills! What do cyclists do - both with the hills and the cable car tracks. I want to hear more about the rookie with attitude.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your next post - it's a highlight of my dreary work day
